01.

What is 34South?

34South is a development company partly owned by the IDC.

This development company was established in South Africa in 2010, in response to the unacceptable ship recycling practices in South East Asia.

02.

Why Green Ship Recycling?

Green Ship Recycling is the way of the future. It refers to the method of ship recycling and is the responsible answer to:

  • The Basel Convention,
  • The Hong Kong Convention,
  • The European Union Regulations.

03.

Related EU Regulations?

Relevant EU Regulations state that any vessel flying an EU flag must be recycled in an accredited facility. This will soon include any vessel owned by an EU registered company to prevent the loophole practice for flags of convenience.

34South will apply for EU accreditation in this regard.

INVEST IN THE CHANGE

Discover more. The crisis is real.

In South East Asia, men desperate for work perform one of the world’s most dangerous jobs. They demolish huge ships in gruelling conditions, braving disease, pollution, and the threat of being crushed or stabbed by steel sliced from the hulls.
